Build boundaries that preserve connection
A boundary does not have to mean disappearing. Small changes—muting a channel, setting reply expectations, turning off previews, or choosing one trusted contact—can reduce strain while keeping meaningful relationships.
- Decide which conversations are urgent and which can wait.
- Avoid becoming the only support person for someone in recurring crisis.
- Use platform blocks, mutes, and reporting tools when a relationship becomes unsafe.
- Keep an offline or professional support option outside the community.
When a peer needs more than you can provide
You can care about someone without acting as their counselor. State what you can do, offer a verified resource, and involve appropriate emergency support when there is an immediate safety threat.
