About LGBTQ affirming care
This YouMatter wellness guide provides general, non-clinical education and verified next steps.

“LGBTQ+-affirming” can describe many levels of experience. A directory badge is a lead, not proof of fit. You can ask how a provider supports your identities without disclosing every personal detail.
Questions for a first conversation
- What experience do you have with people who share my identities and care goals?
- How are names, pronouns, identity information, records, billing, and portal messages handled?
- What do you do when a topic is outside your competence?
- Are telehealth, access accommodations, cost, insurance, and scheduling workable for me?
Verify licenses through the relevant regulator and review the provider’s privacy and complaint process. It is reasonable to keep looking when the response is vague, dismissive, or not a fit.
